Are you a fan of AWS, but not fixated on using it for everything? DevOps and Blockchain were made for each other, can you bring your experimental and collaborative approach to help us define how? Our €30M open source project is a place where you can finally bring a fresh perspective to DevOps! A Finnish company where you can help us build something custom made for the Streamr project, surrounded by what will likely be your most talented team of colleagues ever. This ain’t no Yoga app for ios y’all, this is Deep Tech Infrastructure! (mic drop). Check this out:
What is the Streamr project?
The Streamr project has roots in Finland but was started in Switzerland, where the crypto revolution began. We believe that decentralized networks and data ecosystems are the foundations of tomorrow’s technology – the building blocks of the future. Streamr is the missing real-time data protocol for the decentralized web. It is being built by contributors from around the world, who are developing the infrastructure that will power the world's data economy and give people back control of their information.
TX (Tomorrow Explored) is a Helsinki based software development company specializing in the application of blockchain technology and data ecosystems. We are the special forces unit behind the Streamr project, working closely with the Streamr tech stack in our distributed teams. We also have other local projects going on, with shared synergies between a few different groups of designers and developers.
As DevOps Specialist you will ensure that deployment and testing processes are set up and working. You’ll make sure our 10-15 developers can do their jobs as smoothly as possible, and are not hindered or having to fight with tooling or setups or environments. You’ll also work your magic to improve the QA side of things, especially setting up monitoring of production environments, alerts, and making sure developers get notified as well as having the best possible information to react appropriately when issues pop up.
All of our testing and some of our deployment processes are automated, but there’s plenty of room for improvement. Our environments are pretty fragmented: our local dev environment runs on Docker, our staging is on AWS and our production resources are split between frontend resources on AWS and backend services on traditional bare metal servers. Your attention to detail and understanding of developers’ needs will come in handy in refining and unifying things.
We dig AWS for sure, but we hope you’re not a committed fanboy : ) We appreciate the ability to work traditional Linux boxes, pick the best tool for each job, roll your own scripts and tools if necessary, as well as understand and optimize operational cost constraints.
Granted, in the decentralized world there will be less and less stuff run by us on centralized servers. This means we’re on a journey to discover what DevOps means in a decentralized world and to define its best practices. We’re looking for some fresh perspective as opposed to typical cloud-oriented DevOps. Are you with us?
You’re familiar with AWS but don’t swear by it for everything
You know your way around Docker and Docker Compose
You’ve set up Travis or other CI pipelines before
You’ve set up monitoring and alerting pipelines
You’re comfortable with Linux command line
You have solid experience automating, developing automation infrastructure, writing scripts
You “build first, empower second”: First you roll up your sleeves and get things up and running to a great baseline, then empower others by teaching how to use the mechanisms you create
You’re a talker sure, but an even better listener, good at diplomacy and facilitation with humans (and non-humans)
Interested in the Decentralized world!
